River Rhythms

Urbanism
Brazil

A speculative project investigating the daylighting and renaturalization of Belo Horizonte’s rivers and streams as futuring practices.

River Rhythms is a speculative project that investigates the daylighting (uncovering) and renaturalization of rivers and streams in Belo Horizonte as future-making practices.

Based on the understanding that modern urbanization promoted the denial of future possibilities by hiding and controlling waterways, the project proposes reopening not only the rivers, but also the temporalities they carry—whether geological, ecological, historical, or ancestral.

Through the creation of speculative images, Tempos do Rio does not present ready-made solutions, but rather constructs visual provocations that help imagine preferable futures, in which water is once again experienced as a daily presence and an agent of multi-species coexistence, contributing to the reactivation of the urban imagination and public debate about the city and its rivers.
